Metadata is data that describes other data. This can include call records and information about the sender and recipient of a message. The differentiation between content and metadata is not always clear. Metadata can reveal sensitive information and is harder to conceal by users than content is. Ending the divide between content and metadata would therefore allow better privacy protection.
